RTD highlights women in transit during Women’s History Month: Meet Cheryl Jones

March is Women's History Month, a dedicated time to acknowledge and celebrate the significant contributions made by women throughout history. RTD takes pride in its exceptional and diverse team of women who demonstrate strength and brilliance in their roles, working tirelessly every day to make lives better through connections, be it operating buses, maintaining trains, or contributing behind the scenes in traffic management.

In honor of these remarkable individuals, each week throughout March will feature a testimonial of one of these women, shedding light on their daily efforts and contributions to RTD and the community.

This week, RTD features Cheryl Jones, a parts clerk with over 18 years of experience at the agency.

When asked about the favorite part of her job, Jones said, “the variety and fast pace. I provide parts for anything from a chainsaw to tractors that have a combustible engine that is not a bus.” Besides that, she is involved in purchasing and accounting, and working with mechanics and vendors.

To encourage more women to pursue careers in transit, Jones suggests, “you need to have perseverance and embrace the KISS method, which is Keep It Simple and Straightforward. I always use it as Keep It Simple, Sister.” She adds, “maybe some network forums.” Her inspirations include Helen Keller, a leader in the disability rights fight.

Jones is also proud of simplifying and organizing the inventory room where she used to work, which made her team’s lives easier.

Outside of work, her passion is habitat restoration. Once she retires, she plans to jump back into community work, travel, and have fun with friends and family.
